DESCRIPTION:A brand-new music experience is coming to Purbeck…\nTraditional folk tunes. Funky grooves. Rock energy. Big band sound –  One unforgettable day.\nJoin Rebecca Field-Bunney and Matt Tarling for a high-energy workshop where we’ll transform folk music into something bold, exciting and impossible to sit still to. Expect driving rhythms, creative arrangements, collaborative music-making and a finale performance that will have the audience on their feet.\nWhether you play strings, woodwind, brass, percussion, guitar, ukulele, if you love making music and want to be part of something fresh and exciting, this is for you!\nThis is more than a workshop – it’s the launch of a brand-new youth music project for Purbeck.\nThe project suits young musicians aged from 7 to 18, who have some experience with their instrument (ie not for complete beginners – perhaps grade 3 and above) who want to develop.  All instruments are welcome.\nIf you aren’t sure, apply below and Matt will talk through suitability with you.  These workshops are set to continue throughout the rest of this year and into 2027 – details to follow.\nYou can apply to join the workshop by booking a free place below – Matt will then be in touch to discuss your experience and how to join the workshop.  Please make sure you have a parent or guardian’s permission to apply and make them aware that Matt needs to speak to you before you start.\nThis project is supported by Arts Council England.\n\nProject Leaders:\n\nMatt Tarling – Multi-Skilled Professional Violinist – has spent the last 3 decades turning his real-world stage experience into musical confidence for players of every age. After developing advanced classical technique as a teenager, his style was then shaped by hundreds of Irish music sessions and years of touring Europe with various Irish folk bands.\nHe specialises in “paperless,” accessible and inclusive teaching, true to the folk tradition of passing on repertoire by ear. Matt directs The Purbeck Youth Tradfolk Collective and performs 50+ concerts a year with top ceilidh bands.
