Blacksmithing course for Teenagers – 10th or 11th August
A one day blacksmithing course for young people aged 12-18 to learn the basics of blacksmithing – discover the basic techniques of tapering, cutting, forging and forming to make some items such as necklaces, rings, small hanging sculptures using a wide variety of tools such as the forge, anvil, hammers, tongs, chisels.
Alistair Butcher, who has a smithy at Sandy Hill Arts, produces a broad range of small scale handmade tools, historical reproductions and artworks forged and made by traditional means onsite, will provide tuition on basic blacksmithing techniques and will support participants to create their own individual, functional and sculptural forged items by the end of the day.
The course also runs on Saturday 10th August. Participants can select and book the date on which they would like to attend.
Course cost includes materials and participants take home the items that they have made at the end of the day.
