DIRECTIONS
It’s easy to find the Sandy Hill Arts site in Corfe Castle. We are two minutes from the centre of Corfe on foot, and we have our own (limited) parking if you arrive by car. Beware Google Maps which can take you past our entrance further up Sandy Hill Lane.
BY ROAD
If you are coming on the A351 from Wareham, take the second left (after the turning to Studland), just before the road climbs to the village square. Go under the railway bridge and turn immediately right along the track leading to the workshops and gallery and not further up Sandy Hill Lane as Google Maps would encourage you to do. Look out for the signs! We have some limited parking for visitors.
BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Visit us on the Steam Railway from Swanage or the number 40 bus from Swanage or Poole.
From Corfe village it’s a short walk to Sandy Hill Arts. From the Square, take Station Road which starts by the corner shop next to the pedestrian crossing. Go along Station Road and through the station onto the platform (access is open through a side gate even when the station is closed). Cross over the footbridge and you can’t fail to see us. The gallery and workshops were once the milk depot attached to the station. It’s easier to come through the station than walk around the bottom of the castle – and you can avoid the busy traffic.

Catering at Sandy Hill Arts
We are delighted to welcome back The Sprout and Bean with their multi-coloured horse box pop-up cafe. We are just setting out opening times for the year – expect at the very least a range of delicious lunches and snacks with good vegetarian options – and excellent coffee – at weekends throughout the season. More detail as we agree it – keep an eye on our social media!
Access & Inclusivity
We are committed to improving access for our artists and visitors alike and we aim to ensure that everyone with access requirements has an enjoyable experience.
The road access to Sandy Hill Arts is on a slight incline but the site is, by and large, fairly flat and even. There is a bridge across Corfe railway station to the centre but wheelchair access has to be via Corfe village. Most of the studios and spaces are on the ground floor with a few step-ups to entrances. Anything above the ground floor could be deemed inaccessible as these are old converted buildings with narrow stairwells and there are no lifts. There are no allocated disabled vehicle bays but blue badge owners are free to park anywhere that doesn’t obstruct others.
The majority of workshops are on the ground floor and we encourage inclusivity. We welcome guide dogs and hearing dogs. Large print interpretation texts for our exhibitions are available on request. We have accessible portable toilets on site throughout the summer months.

Dog Policy
As well as guide dogs, we welcome dogs of all breeds and lineage in the Centre as long as they are well-behaved and remain under your control.
Bear in mind that some of our artists’ work is fragile (and in some cases quite expensive) so if your dog is large, boisterous or excited by being in new places it goes without saying that the studios and exhibition spaces might not be the best place for them. Our artists are a friendly bunch, so if you aren’t sure please ask.
Group visits
Visit, experience and explore with a group visit to Sandy Hill Arts. If you’re a school, college or local interest group, you’ll find us an inspiring destination to learn about local art and some of the heritage crafts of Purbeck. Your group can see a wide variety of artists and craftspeople at work in their personal studio spaces.
A visit to the Centre is ideal for students studying at GCSE level as well as further and higher education students, as well as adult specialist interest groups. So, whether you’re at a local college or University, part of a group or organisation or just a group of friends who’d like to find out more, we’d love to welcome you to Sandy Hill Arts.
