Alistair Butcher
Alistair Butcher – aka AB Forgeworks – works in steel and copper, creating craft tools, historical replicas, sculptures and artistic pieces on a small, hand-forged, traditional scale. Alistair likes to incorporate the natural world and its artistic influence in his work as well as the history that binds us and our ancestors to each other and the land we live and work with.
All the materials he uses are recycled or foraged in the local area and he tries to use traditional methods with as little modern equipment or influence as possible. Alistair trained at the National School of Blacksmithing in Herefordshire and at Plumpton College, studying Blacksmithing and Jewellery. He was inspired through his love of history, physicality, creativity and self-improvement as well as a family history of the craft.
Alistair also runs Blacksmith Experience days, creating artefacts from steel the old-fashioned way in a stunning historical and natural setting.
