MOMOKO GILL
DO NOT MISS THIS GIG! SANDY HILL ARTS ARE PROUD TO PRESENT …
Momoko Gill – a self-taught drummer, producer, songwriter, and vocalist whose collaborations with Alabaster DePlume, Matthew Herbert, Coby Sey, Tirzah, and Nadeem Din-Gabisi—alongside extensive touring as a drummer, keyboardist, and vocalist—have shaped her distinctive approach to composition and production. Now, she steps forward with her own solo project, marking a new chapter in her artistic evolution.
Her debut solo album, ‘Momoko’, released with a packed sell-out set at The Jazz Cafe, London, on 13th February, via the esteemed Strut Records marks Gill’s first major statement as a solo artist, fresh from her critically acclaimed collaboration ‘Clay’ with electronic pioneer Matthew Herbert.
MOMOKO GILL was recently championed on BBC6 MUSIC Gilles Peterson Show, where she was the chosen in session artist for the February 7th programme: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002qqnc
To celebrate her new album, Gill has widely shared two compelling new tracks: the pulsating ‘No Others’ and the electric, choir-driven ‘When Palestine Is Free.’
Though deeply influenced by jazz, Gill rejects imitation, sculpting her sound through feel and expression rather than tradition. Developing her skills in harmony, drums, keys, and vocals through instinct, collaboration, and solitary study, she seeks clarity in both musical ideas and storytelling.
With a voice that carries both intimacy and depth, Momoko continues to push the boundaries between genres, storytelling, and sonic experimentation, forging a path uniquely her own.
