Successful Arts Council bid for grassroots music project in Purbeck
Sandy Hill Arts is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded Arts Council England National Lottery funding. The grant will support an exciting new grassroots music project, aimed at deepening community engagement and access to quality, diverse music in Purbeck, and inspiring local musical talent in the community.
The Arts Council National Lottery Project Grant is a vital funding stream that enables organisations like Sandy Hill Arts to deliver impactful projects that benefit the local community. The funding will support a diverse programme of musical events and projects in collaboration with community partners, as well as the purchase of a large marquee and PA system.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Arts Council England for their support for our Grassroots Music Project,” said Laurel Hart, Artistic Director at Sandy Hill Arts. “We have begun to generate a real musical presence in Purbeck; with this funding we want to build on that by strengthening our ability to offer the local community access to new kinds of music that they might not otherwise experience, and importantly, appeal to younger audiences and those with additional accessibility needs. We will also be offering a platform for rising talent in the region to showcase their music throughout the year.”
“We strongly believe in the transformative power of music; this kind of support helps us develop into a go-to venue for different kinds of music, drawing talent from far and wide, while also supporting up-and-coming local musicians. We are very excited to launch this project with a performance by psychedelic rock band The Good Beast and the Big Byrd on 25 June, followed by experimental musician Plumm on 22 July. We are firming up dates for more performances as we speak.”
“The funding will be instrumental in helping us cultivate a dynamic and inclusive space for musical talent and fuel a growing, vibrant local music scene. We are also delighted to be delivering local projects including AllSort’d, the Dementia Choir, Safe Space, and Jazz Masterclass that engage and benefit our local communities. It’s the beginning of our journey but in time we hope to create a lasting impact on the cultural fabric of our region”.
