February Half-term Blacksmithing Workshop for Children
Following the success of our autumn blacksmithing workshop, we are putting on a February workshop for children aged 7 to 12 to learn the basics of blacksmithing – discover the basic techniques of tapering, cutting, forging and forming to make some items such as necklaces, rings, small hanging sculptures using a wide variety of tools such as the forge, anvil, hammers, tongs, chisels.
Alistair Butcher, who has a smithy at Sandy Hill Arts, produces a broad range of small scale handmade tools, historical reproductions and artworks forged and made by traditional means onsite, will provide tuition on basic blacksmithing techniques and will support participants to create their own individual, functional and sculptural forged items by the end of the workshop.
Course cost includes materials and participants take home the items that they have made at the end of the workshop.
Children must be accompanied by parents during the workshop.
