Easter Blacksmithing Workshop for children and teenagers
Following the success of our February blacksmithing workshop, we are putting on an Easter workshop for children aged 7 to 16 to learn the basics of blacksmithing – discover the basic techniques of tapering, cutting, forging and forming to make some items such as necklaces, rings, small hanging sculptures using a wide variety of tools such as the forge, anvil, hammers, tongs, chisels.
Alistair Butcher, who has a smithy at Sandy Hill Arts, produces a broad range of small scale handmade tools, historical reproductions and artworks forged and made by traditional means onsite, will provide tuition on basic blacksmithing techniques and will support participants to create their own individual, functional and sculptural forged items by the end of the workshop.
Course cost includes materials and participants take home the items that they have made at the end of the workshop.
The day will be divided into one hour slots, so that each participant receives one to one tuition. The specific time slot will be allocated once all bookings are in for the day and an email will go out confirming the time slot for each person.
Children under 12 must be accompanied by parents during the workshop.
