Tile Making Family Workshop with Diana Hall – PAWF
Join experimental archaeologists Diana Hall and John Winterbottom for a family-friendly workshop on how to make your very own embossed pattern 2″ tiles, ready to take home.
You’ll start the session with a sheet of clay and with the support of our potters and oodles of inspiration you’ll end the session having made totally unique set of tiles. As we only have a few hours, these tiles will be unfired.
All materials will be provided. Families are welcome.

About Diana Hall and John Winterbottom
John and Diana are two experimental archaeologists interested in encouraging wet, pliable, clay turn into ceramic when fired to about 800* in a bonfire kiln.
Diana is a recognised national expert in making reproduction medieval encaustic tiles like the image above for restoration projects in cathedrals, etc. We hope to have Diana run a longer encaustic tile workshop later in the year if there is enough interest from local craftspeople and artists.
They have both worked at Singleton Open Air Museum, Chichester – Winchester Cathedral – Bestwell, Wareham, Dorset, Corfe Castle and many other places. They also demonstrate medieval inlaid tile production and conduct hands-on small tile workshops.
